Caption | Concept: William Paton Reid. A total of 22 were built in various lots between 1906 and 1921. The personnel called them "North British Atlantics". Although they generally performed well, they were subject to unpleasant twitches, whereupon various optimizations were undertaken with the assistance of chief engineers from other railroads. The first series was also converted from saturated to superheated steam operation, while the later batches received this technology ex works. In the mid-1920s, the star of these locomotives began to decline, as the LNER began to switch to the "Pacific" type for the nobler services. The present locomotive series had to retire from service in the years 1933-1937 |
Caption (German) | Konzept: William Paton Reid.
