Caption | Freight train engine of a most interesting series: In 1917, a total of 369 units were built for the Railway Operating Division (ROD) of the Ministry of Munitions, based on the type 8K built by John G. Robinson in 1911 for the Great Central Railway. 311 of these machines were shipped to the French theater of war, after the war most of them came back, many of them to the L.N.E.R. During World War II 61 of these machines reached the Middle East (Egypt, Palestine) and partly remained there. 13 of them even made it to Australia, where one locomotive has been preserved in working order. |
