Caption | Experimental locomotive 2512, wheel arrangement 4-4-2, four-cylinder compound locomotive based on the De Glehn system. Sociéte des ateliérs de construction mecanique (SACM) Belfort No. 5438, built in 1904. After the success of the De Glehn compound locomotives in France, the PRR purchased one such locomotive to see what they could learn from it for their own locomotive construction. The locomotive ran very smoothly at all speeds, but was too light for the PRR's needs and was therefore rarely used in train service. The locomotive was discarded and scrapped as early as 1912. The picture shows the locomotive still without the typical American ingredients like cowcatcher and large headlight. Therefore with very high probability factory photo SACM Belfort. Dating thus 1904 |
Caption (German) | Experimentallokomotive 2512, Achsfolge 4-4-2, Vierzylinder-Verbundlokomotive nach System De Glehn. Sociéte des ateliérs de construction mecanique (SACM) Belfort No. 5438, Baujahr 1904. Datierung somit 1904 |
