Caption | Year of construction 1932, did not reach the intended performance criteria despite huge dimensions by far (faulty construction), from 1942 the most famous French steam locomotive designer André Chapelon dealt with a rebuilding, according to his own (at that time revolutionary) ideas, in 1946 this deepest action was finished and the engine now running under the generic designation 242 A brought sensational results: it was probably the most powerful and at the same time very fast and very economical steam locomotive in Europe |
