Szintillationszähler, Seriennummer: 11 PB 4522, zur Messung der Energie und Intensität ionisierender Gammastrahlung, mit Natriumiodid (NaI) als kristallförmiges, transparentes Szintillationsmaterial bzw. Detektor. Mit anorganischen Substanzen wie NaI lassen sich eine höhere Dichte als mit organischen Substanzen erzielen. Dies verbessert für Gammastrahlung die Absorptionsfähigkeit und damit die Empfindlichkeit des Zählers. Anzeige in der Einheit MR/HR (milliroentgens per hour). Mit dem kalten Krieg und der Verbreitung von Atomwaffen in den 1950er-Jahren versuchte die US -Regierung, einen"Uranrausch" in Alaska zu entfachen. Die Hauptzielgruppe des Herstellers waren Prospektoren, welche sich in diesem Gebiet auf die Suche nach Uran begaben, in der Hoffnung dieses an die Regierung verkaufen zu können. Man fand jedoch keine nennenswerten Vorkommen, weshalb der Verkauf der Geräte bald wieder einbrach. Am Institut für Geophysik der ETH war das Instrument bis mindestens 1964 in Gebrauch.

Zur Bestimmung der Schwingungsrichtungen und der optischen Achsenebene in doppeltbrechenden Kristallen, zur Ermittlung des Charakters der Doppelbrechung und zur Bestimmung des Betrags der Drehung bei zirkularpolarisierenden Substanzen. Im unteren Rohr befinden sich der Polarisator (ein Nicolsches Prisma) und ein Satz Linsen. Oberhalb der Linse wird der Tisch für das Präparat angebracht. Der Kardioid-Kondensor wird mittels Schieberohr in die Kondensorschiebehülse am Beleuchtungsapparat eingeschoben und mit dem Kondensortrieb nach oben gekurbelt. Der Kardioidkondensor ist als nahezu aplanatischer Dunkelfeldkondensor ausgeführt. Die Dunkelfeldmethode führt zu einem dunklen Bildhintergrund, vor dem sich die zu beobachtenden Strukturen hell abheben und wurde daher besonders für die Untersuchung kleinster lebender Bakterien empfohlen. Zeiss empfahl zur Verwendung mit dem Kardioid-Kondensor entweder den Achromat D oder bevorzugt die Apochromate 4 mm bzw. 3 mm. Kardioide Oberflächen waren schwierig herzustellen, stattdessen verwendete Zeiss eine kugelige Oberfläche, die den gleichen Effekt hervorrief, vermarktete das Gerät aber dennoch als Kardioidkondensor.

Diese zwei Fotoobjektive sind bezüglich der Aberationen auf ein möglichst kontrastreiches und planes Bild korrigiert. Sie dienen dazu, mikroskopische Bilder auf Fotoplatten zu bannen. Die Firma Seibert bietet als einer der ersten deutschen Hersteller eigens für derartige Zwecke geschaffene Objektive an.

Konisch geformte Röhre mit ringförmigem Ansatzstück auf der einen sowie oben und unten offener Hülse mit seitlichem Schlitz auf der anderen Seite. Für Befestigung auf Kollimatorrohr, die Öffnung der Röhre soll an den Objektivkopf anschlagen. Das Instrument wurde von Hermann Traube (1860-1903, ab 1889 Dozent der Mineralogie und ab 1905 Professor an der Universität Berlin) beim Mechaniker R. Fuess in Steglitz bei Berlin in Auftrag gegeben.

Wird mit einer Schraube auf dem drehbaren Tisch des Mikroskops festgeschraubt. Die seitliche Bewegung, sowie die Vor- und Rückwärtsbewegung haben je eine Ausdehnung von 30 mm, beide Bewegungen können mittels Nonius auf 0,1 mm genau abgelesen werden. Die Objektklammer ist so eingerichtet, dass sie Objektträger von verschiedenem Format fassen kann.

Mit Prisma als Dispersionssystem. Ein Monochromator ist ein optisches Gerät zur spektralen Isolierung einer bestimmten Wellenlänge aus einem einfallenden Strahl (zumeist elektromagnetische Strahlung wie Licht, Röntgenstrahlung, Synchrotronstrahlung, aber auch Neutronenstrahlung). Elektromagnetische Strahlung ist ohne Behandlung polychromatisch, also aus verschiedenen Wellenlängen zusammengesetzt. Bei der Verwendung eines Monochromators wird der unerwünschte Anteil der Strahlung absorbiert oder abgelenkt.

Früher verwendeten Handwerker bei Feinarbeiten (etwa in der Schusterwerkstatt) eine hohle, wassergefüllte Glaskugel, um das Licht einer Kerze zu bündeln. Ausserdem wurde die Wärmestrahlung gefiltert, weshalb sich die Lampe für temperaturempfindliche Materialien eignete. Eine kleinere Version der Schusterkugel fand bei frühen optischen Mikroskopen Verwendung.

Sog. Schusterlampe mit Glühbirne und wasserbefüllter Schusterkugel (Glaskolben) als Sammellinse. Früher verwendeten Handwerker bei Feinarbeiten (etwa in der Schusterwerkstatt) eine hohle, wassergefüllte Glaskugel, um das Licht einer Kerze zu bündeln. Ausserdem wurde die Wärmestrahlung gefiltert, weshalb sich die Lampe für temperaturempfindliche Materialien eignete. Eine kleinere Version der Schusterkugel fand bei frühen optischen Mikroskopen Verwendung.

Kratzsklerometer mit Rollgewichtssystem, 1 Schlüssel. Vorrichtung für genaue Messungen der Ritzhärte, insbesondere ihre Abhängigkeit von der Richtung auf Mineraloberflächen. Mit einem Sklerometer lassen sich Härteunterschiede erfassen, die in Form von Härtekurven die relativen Härtegrade darstellen. Zwei Mineralogen aus Wien, J. Grailich (1829-1859) und F. Pekarek, entwickelten das Sklerometer ab 1854 weiter, indem sie das Rollprinzip von R. Franz (1827-?) beibehielten, jedoch wie Professor A. Seebeck (1805-1840, Wien) einen festen Ritzpunkt wählten, über den die Probe bewegt werden konnte.

Monokulares Fernrohr, Vertikalkreis mit Gewicht, Linse in Form einer gelben Halbkugel aus Glas, zwei schwenkbare Hohl- und Planspiegel. Das Refraktometer ist ein Messgerät zur Bestimmung des Brechungsindex von flüssigen oder festen transparenten Stoffen durch Refraktometrie. Es nutzt dafür das Verhalten von Licht am Übergang zwischen einem Prisma mit bekannten Eigenschaften und dem zu prüfenden Stoff. Dazu wird die zu untersuchende Substanz mit einer Flüssigkeit auf die Basisfläche der Halbkugel gelegt.

Escher, dessen Name auf dem Mikroskopkasten steht, war ein Doktorand vom Erdwissenschaftler Paul Niggli (1888-1953) und um 1941 Mitglied der Vereinigung Schweizerischer Petroleumgeologen.

Mit Monokular, oranger Durchlaufwasserschlauch, Brechungsindex-Skala (1.3-1.7), 1 Justierplättchen aus Glas, 1 Fläschchen Monobromnaphthalin, schwenkbarer Planspiegel, 1 Schlüssel. Das Abbe-Refraktometer wurde für firmeneigene Anwendungen von Ernst Abbé im Jahre 1872 entwickelt. Unter Ausnutzung des Grenzwinkels für Totalreflexion war es damit möglich, den Brechungsindex n in einem Tropfen einer Flüssigkeit genau zu bestimmen. Das Gerät nutzt dafür das Verhalten von Licht am Übergang zwischen einem Prisma mit bekannten Eigenschaften und dem zu prüfenden Stoff. Um die Temperatur der Probe konstant zu halten ist das Probeprisma mit einer Durchlaufwassertemperierung versehen. Die Temperatur kann mit einem Thermometer bestimmen werden. Die typische Messtemperatur beträgt 20 °C. Monobromnaphthalin ist eine farblose, ölige Flüssigkeit und wird wegen seines hohen Brechungsindex in der Mikroskopie zur Einbettung von Proben und bei der Messung des Brechungsindex zur Bestimmung von Kristallen verwendet.
