In Navaho Land, Arizona
Caption
Original description by Arnold Heim: These Indians are called "The Bedouins of the Desert", from the fact that they never settle for any length of time in any one place, but live in "hogans" and travel from place to place. Yet they are a pastoral people, intelligent and self-supporting. they own large numbers of cattle, sheep and goats; till small farms; make the world-famed Navaho blankets; and are expert silvermiths.

Near the End of the Granite Gorge, Grand Canyon, Arizona
Caption
Original description by Arnold Heim: The district through which Russell and Monett made their dare-devil trip is one of the most interesting in the world. The Grand Canyon is really a multitude of canyons. The main canyon is over two hundred miles long. The Colorado River itself has a remarkable history - formed by mountain streams, the Green and Grand, it flows through canyon walls for hundreds of miles, arrying millions of tons of sand, rock and dirt until when it reaches the desert it is reddish brown and tawny, and withal, one of the dirtiest streams in the world.

Grand Canyon of Arizona, From O'Neills (Yavapai) Point

Original description by Arnold Heim: Far beyond the gloomy and forbidding river gorge, where, through twelve miles of space, looms the north wall of the Canyon in all its grand symmetry of cliff and terrace, we note as our eyes become more accustomed to the variety of form and color a towering gateway opening away into a deep and dizzy gulf that recedes far into Kaibab plateau. this is the Bright Angel Ampitheater, a noble canyon valley two or three miles wide, fifteen miles in length, and deep as the main canyon itself, and secon only to it in imposing grandeur; through its center flows Bright Angel Creek, the Colorado's most beautiful tributary.

New Union Passanger Station, Kansas City, Missouri
Caption
Original description by Arnold Heim: Kansas City's newest union passenger terminal will rank with the finest in the world, the estimated cost being over 35 million dollars; the station building and it s appurtenances alone costing over five and one-half million. The general waiting room will be 80 feet wide and 410 feet long. A large arch opens into the grand lobby, which is to be 143 feet wide and 272 feet long with an ornamental ceiling 120 feet high. The main building will front a plaza which is connected to and is to be made a part of Kansas City's magnificent system of public parks and boulevards. Some idea of the size of the station may be gained from the fact that about 20'000 tons of structural steel, 250'000 square feet of cut stone and over a million dollars worth of concrete enter into its making, and that from the east end of the mail house to the west end of the express building is 1800 feet, more than a third of a mile.
