Caption | Probably taken from Via Natale Gallino 17, looking north-east (NE). These low-frequency three-phase AC locomotives were developed to conquer the line of the Giovi Pass between the port of Genoa and the industrial metropolises in the north. Train weight approx. 380 tons, speed 50 km/h. The Giovi line was electrified in 1910 with 3.6 kV 16 2/3 Hz three-phase current. The advantage of three-phase technology for the mountain railroad was that an electric regenerative brake could be easily installed. |
