Caption The Bund of 20 May 1955 reported on the rescue of the Turkish wheat harvest: "In Turkey, as well as in other countries of the Middle East, the immense wheat fields are annually attacked by a grain bug called Jasmuck. This year, the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture ordered the novel insecticide diazinon, manufactured by J. R. Geigy AG, Basel, to control this dangerous wheat pest. As time was pressing, a special aircraft was chartered from Swissair for transport to Turkey. Our picture [LBS_SR12-18-038-AL] shows the loading of a DC-4, in which the passenger seats were removed, with 30 barrels of diazinon concentrate, which took place at Blotzheim airfield.
Caption (German) Der Bund vom 20.05.1955 berichtete über die Rettung der türkischen Weizenernte: In der Türkei sowie in andern Ländern des Nahen Ostens werden die immensen Weizenfelder alljährlich von einer Getreidewanze, Jasmuck genannt, heimgesucht. Zur Bekämpfung dieses gefährlichen Weizenschädlings wurde dieses Jahr vom türkischen Landwirtschaftsministerium das von der J. R. Geigy AG, Basel, hergestellte, neuartige Insektizid Diazinon bestellt. Da die Zeit drängte, wurde bei der Swissair ein Sonderflugzeug für den Transport nach der Türkei gechartert. Unser Bild [LBS_SR12-18-038-AL] zeigt die auf dem Flugplatz Blotzheim erfolgte Ladung einer DC-4, in der die Passagiersitze entfernt wurden, mit 30 Fässern Diazinon-Konzentrat
