Caption | Postmark 13.7.1904. Picture postcard with reproduction of the painting "Maxim riflemen in the Alps" by Swiss painter Hans Beat Wieland (1867-1945). The painting hung in the International War and Peace Museum in Lucerne (1902-1919). The painting depicts a fictional war scene in which a Swiss army unit armed with Maxim machine guns defend an Alpine crossing against advancing troops. The picture was present in the museum as a diorama (Diorama V). It is a more warlike version of the 1902 painting "Soldiers in the High Mountains", showing, among other things, additionally the conspicuous machine gun in the foreground. |
