Caption | One of the practically identical sister ships "Arundel Castle" and "Windsor Castle" of the Union Castle Line. Built according to pre-war plans, the ships entered service in 1921/1922 already obsolete. They were the last ships with four funnels! The "Arundel Castle" was built by Harland & Wolff, later modernized and not scrapped until 1958 in Hong Kong. The "Windsor Castle", built by John Brown and also somewhat modernized, fell victim to a torpedo attack on March 23, 1943. Mail steamer leaving Cape Town |
