Caption | The gently westward sloping ridge with steppe grass and forest groups of "Tjemara" (Casnarina Innghuhniana), from where the picture was taken, is the 2220 m high western foot of the 3035 m high Kepala, a probably older volcanic cone. The foot of the Smern ash cone facing the viewer is 2650 m high. The upper forest border at half height is sharply marked. It reaches up to 3100 m. This is not a climatic scene of the Casnarina, nor a change in the composition of the ground, but a destruction by stones and ashes repeated at every major eruption. |
Asche. |
