Caption | "Stuttgart Friction Meter" is a test method for measuring the skid resistance of road surfaces. The measuring device consists of a single-axle trailer with a measuring wheel in the middle, which is pulled by the Cadillac. Inside the vehicle a water tank is visible, which puts a water film between 0.5 and 1mm on the road surface between the wheels. For the measurement, the wheel is blocked on the wet strip while driving and the resulting force is recorded. Alternatively, the measurement can also be performed with a defined slip. The Cadillac was replaced in 1992 by a MAN truck with a larger water tank. This made it possible to carry out longer measurement runs without refilling the water tank.
