Caption | On this bank of the DS "Helvétie", built by Gebr. Sulzer in 1924/26. At the time the photo was taken, the ship was still powered by a three-cylinder DC steam engine (similar to the DS "Stadt Luzern" III), a few years later a diesel-electric second-hand propulsion system (from an Austrian Danube tug) was installed, which never really proved itself. The "Helvétie" is still there today, but out of service. Position 9h: diesel-electric wheel barge "Italie", distinguished from its sister "Vevey" by the time of operation (for decades Geneva at about 13.40h). The further fate is still open. Opposite, at right angles to the shore at the service pier, the former diesel-electric wheeled ship "Genève", which serves there stationary social and cultural projects (even today). Directly at the jetty Jardin Anglais DS "Valais", which served at that time without propulsion system as station office and restaurant. In front of it, on the lake side, the steamer "Rhône" (Sulzer 1926/27, last paddle steamer of this company), still active today. The unit in front is not clearly identifiable, but it is one of the sister ships "Vevey" and "Italie" |
Caption (German) | Am diesseitigen Ufer der DS "Helvétie", erbaut Gebr. Sulzer 1924/26.
