Caption | At the Débarcadère du Mont-Blanc: Steamship "Simplon", construction started in 1914/15 (Sulzer Winterthur), interruption due to World War I, construction continued from 1919, commissioning on June 23, 1920. This ship, successful in every respect, is still active and popular today, after various major and partial revisions. Because of its size and corresponding crew and fuel consumption, it was used only sparingly over longer periods (so about 1930-1955), but never decommissioned like some other units of the Lake Geneva fleet during the Great Depression and World War II, seasonally the steamer is still winterized on this picture. |
Caption (German) | Am Débarcadère du Mont-Blanc: Dampfschiff "Simplon", Baubeginn 1914/15 (Sulzer Winterthur), Unterbruch wegen des 1. Weltkriegs, Weiterbau ab 1919, Inbetriebnahme am 23. Juni 1920.
