Caption Center left, perpendicular to the shore: two diesel-electric paddle steamers. The closer ship is the already decommissioned "Genève", delivered by Sulzer in 1896 as a classic paddle steamer and converted experimentally but successfully to diesel-electric propulsion in 1933/1934. Next to it is the "Lausanne", which entered service in 1900 as a steamship (Gebr. Sulzer) and was the second ship on Lake Geneva to be converted to diesel-electric propulsion in 1948/49. The ship is here before its second last season, it was decommissioned in October 1977 and demolished in 1978. Interesting the size comparison with the "Barque du Léman" lying next to the "Genève": these were very stately cargo sailers!
Caption (German) Mitte links, rechtwinklig zum Ufer: zwei dieselelektrische Radschiffe. Das nähere Schiff ist die bereits ausser Dienst stehende "Genève", 1896 von Sulzer als klassischer Raddampfer geliefert und 1933/1934 experimentell, aber erfolgreich auf dieselelektrischen Antrieb umgebaut. Daneben die "Lausanne", die 1900 als Dampfschiff (Gebr. Sulzer) in Betrieb kam und 1948/49 als zweites Schiff auf dem Genfersee auf dieselelektrische Propulsion umgebaut wurde. Das Schiff steht hier vor seiner zweitletzten Saison, im Oktober 1977 wurde es ausgemustert und 1978 abgebrochen. Interessant der Grössenvergleich mit der neben der "Genève" liegenden "Barque du Léman": das waren sehr stattliche Frachtensegler!
