Caption | The wooded, somewhat gorge-like area is the birthplace of Suchard's chocolate empire. Before he used steam engines, water wheels powered his early machines there. Suchard, by the way, was also the founder (after a failed Vaudois attempt in Yverdon) of steam navigation on Lake Neuchâtel. The name of his ship "L'Industriel" (roughly "the industrious one") corresponds to Suchard's entrepreneurial spirit. |
Caption (German) | Das waldige, etwas schluchtartige Gebiet ist die Geburtsstätte des Suchard’schen Schokoladenimperiums. Bevor er Dampfmaschinen verwendete, trieben dort Wasserräder seine frühen Maschinen an. Suchard war übrigens auch (nach einem missglückten waadtländischen Versuch in Yverdon) der Begründer der Dampfschifffahrt auf dem Neuenburgersee. Der Name seines Schiffes "L’Industriel" (in etwa "der Fleissige") entspricht dem Suchard’schen Unternehmergeist |
