Caption | Original title of the Milan - Como flight, but all pictures from Marseille, possibly on the return trip from the Abyssinia flight. Double-screw steamer "Patria", built in 1912/13 by the Société Nouvelle des Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerrannée for the Fabre Line. The ship, which despite its three chimneys had a gross tonnage of only about 12,000 GRT, was propelled by two classic three-cylinder compound engines. Primarily in emigrant traffic to the USA, from 1932 leased to Messageries Maritimes, 1940 conversion to troop carrier, 1940 so badly damaged by a bomb of the "Haganah" organization that she sank within 16 minutes in the port of Haifa, around 300 fatalities. The wreck was lifted and scrapped only in 1952 |
