Caption | At the transhipment point below the fall, the little castle Wörth stands on the right bank, on the other side the castle Laufen, which was the seat of Zurich bailiffs since the 16th century. In 1832, the publisher Louis Bleuler took over the castle, which had been put up for lease, and set up his publishing house and "painting school" there. The large "Rheinwerk" from which the present sheet is taken, was created in the castle Laufen. A path leads from the castle down to the Fischetz, a wooden scaffolding, built to view the fall of the Rhine. The sheet shows in the lower right the pulpit above the falling waters, in the center the two boulders that divide the fall; the larger is accessible. |
