Caption For various surveying tasks such as geographical longitude determination, highly precise time data were necessary. At that time there were no quartz clocks and GPS. The time was indicated by radio signals from special transmitters. This was used to control these 2-second pendulum clocks. The equipment was made by Favarger & Cie, later Favag S. A. Orderer: ETH Institute for Geodesy and Photogrammetry, for the doctoral thesis of Roman Karol Chrzaszcz to Prof. Dr. C. F. Baeschlin: "On the electromagnetic energy supply of the Favarger secondary clock in the Geodetic Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich A problem of forced oscillation", 1948. Caption (German) Für verschiedene Vermessungsarbeiten wie die geographische Längenbestimmung waren hochpräzise Zeitangaben notwendig. Zu dieser Zeit gab es noch keine Quarzuhren und GPS. Die Zeitangaben erfolgten über Radiozeichen von speziellen Sendern. Damit wurden diese 2-Sekunden Pendeluhren gesteuert. Die Anlage stammt von Firma Favarger & Cie, später Favag S. A. Besteller: ETH-Institut für Geodäsie und Photogrammetrie, für die Promotion von Roman Karol Chrzaszcz bei Prof. Dr. C. F.
