Caption | It was the seat of the noble family of Pourtalès-Gorgier, which protected Prussian interests in the canton of Neuchâtel, which was a Prussian province after the reign of the princely family of Orléans-Longueville from 1707 until the coup d'état in 1856. At the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the territory in question was defined as "simultaneously a federal canton and a Prussian principality", and the definitive renunciation of Prussia took place through the mediation of Napoleon III in 1857. |
