Caption | Turbine steamer "Conte Biancamano", built 1924/25 at Wiliiam Beardmore in Dalmuir for the Italian shipping company Lloyd Saubado, launched on 23.4.1925, maiden voyage from Genoa to New York from 20.11.1925. In the course of the nationalizations and mergers demanded by Mussolini, the ship was transferred to Società Italia, Fleet Riunite in 1932, but also sailed in part for Lloyd Triestino. Taken over by the US Navy in 1940 and converted into a troop carrier as USS "Hermitage". Restituted to Italy in 1947 as a luxury passenger ship in service until 1960, demolished in La Spezia in 1961. |
Caption (German) | Turbinendampfer "Conte Biancamano", erbaut 1924/25 bei Wiliiam Beardmore in Dalmuir für die italienische Reederei Lloyd Saubado, Stapellauf am 23.4.1925, Jungfernfahrt von Genua nach New York ab 20.11.1925. Im Zuge der von Mussolini geforderten Verstaatlichungen und Zusammenschlüssen, ging das Schiff 1932 an die Società Italia, Flotte Riunite über, fuhr aber teilweise auch für den Lloyd Triestino. 1940 von der US Navy übernommen und zum Truppentransporter umgebaut als USS "Hermitage". 1947 an Italien restituiert als luxuriöses Passagierschiff bis 1960 in Betrieb, Abbruch 1961 in La Spezia |
