Caption | Built as the "Admiral von Tirpitz" at Vulcan in Stettin, planned for South American service, it was surprised by the war shortly before its final completion. Delivered to the British Empire in 1918/19, the DS initially entered service with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) as the "Empress of China"; after conversion to oil firing, it was renamed the "Empress of Australia". The less than satisfactory propulsion system was totally renewed in 1926/27, very successful in service Southampton-Quebec, interrupted by Mediterranean cruises in winter. Caption (German) | Erbaut als "Admiral von Tirpitz" bei Vulcan in Stettin, geplant für den Südamerikadienst wurde es kurz vor seiner definitiven Fertigstellung vom Krieg überrascht. 1918/19 an das British Empire ausgeliefert, kam das DS bei der Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) vorerst als "Empress of China" in Fahrt, nach Umbau auf Ölfeuerung neuer Name "Empress of Australia". Die wenig befriedigende Antriebsanlage wurde 1926/27 total erneuert, sehr erfolgreich im Dienst Southampton-Quebec, unterbrochen von Mittelmeer-Kreuzfahrten im Winter. Im 2.
