Caption | Left: Restaurant Royal (corner of Karl Neuhausstrasse). The row of houses on Unterer Quai was built in 1904 by an association of craft businesses. Due to the weak order situation caused by the crisis, a possibility was sought to continue to employ the businesses and their employees. Master painter Külling as well as a roofer, a sanitary contractor and two other master craftsmen's businesses each acquired one of the parcels 1107/1108/1109/1110/1112 (according to today's land register plan) and built properties on them, which were then used for their own needs and/or as rental properties. The originally unified ensemble, as seen in the picture, has undergone some changes over time. In particular, the stores and entrances on the first floor were frequently remodeled and adapted to current needs; in addition, attics were extended. The middle property Unterer Quai 41 is the only one that is still more or less in its original condition; worth mentioning here are the original Art Nouveau paintings in the staircase. |
Caption (German) | Links: Restaurant Royal (Ecke Karl Neuhausstrasse).
