Caption | Contemporary picture description by Swissair marketing: "De Havilland-Rapid HB-APA: Mixed construction, two Gipsy VI engines of 200 hp each, wingspan 14.63m, length 10.52m, payload 830 Kg., maximum weight 2270 Kg., cruising speed 210 km, 6 passenger seats, crew: pilot. The propellers used on this aircraft since spring 1939 are made by Escher Wyss & Co.; they are adjustable when stationary, but not in flight. In front under the fuselage nose is the nozzle of the airspeed indicator. Under the initial 'S' of the lettering Swissair, the antenna feedthrough tube emerges from the underside of the fuselage; the lead weight of the antenna wire is visible at its end." |
Caption (German) | Zeitgenössische Bildbeschreibung des Swissair-Marketings: "De Havilland-Rapid HB-APA: Gemischtkonstruktion, zwei Gipsy VI Motoren von je 200 PS, Spannweite 14,63m, Länge 10,52m, Nutzlast 830 Kg., Maximalgewicht 2270 Kg., Reisegeschwindigkeit 210 km, 6 Passagierplätze, Besatzung: Pilot. Die auf diesem Flugzeuge seit Frühjahr 1939 verwendeten Propeller stammen aus dem Herstellerwerk Escher Wyss & Co.; dieselben sind im Stande verstellbar, jedoch nicht im Flug. Vorn unter dem Rumpfbug befindet sich die Düse des Geschwindigkeitsmessers. Unter dem Anfangs-'S' der Beschriftung Swissair tritt aus der Rumpf-Unterseite das Antennendurchführungsrohr aus, an seinem Ende ist das Bleigewicht des Antennendrahtes sichtbar." |
