Caption | Contemporary pictorial description of Swissair marketing: "Chief radio operator Christian Schaaf emerged from the Swissair mechanic corps and was the first on-board radio mechanic in Swiss aviation. It should be emphasized that he acquired his knowledge on his own initiative, in tenacious detail, and at the ship's telegraph school in Amsterdam, so that he received his brevet as an on-board radio operator without a preliminary course in Switzerland. Since Swissair could not employ all of its radio operators during the war with the severely restricted air traffic, Swissair detached Christian Schaaf to Maritime Suisse A.G. in May 1941 as a radio operator on the steamer 'Generoso'." |
