Caption He was the youngest captain when Swissair was founded in 1931. From 1928 to 1930, he had worked as a commercial pilot in the USA and was therefore one of the few who spoke English. For this reason, he was allowed to fly the first Swissair long-haul aircraft DC-4, HB-ILA from New York to Geneva non-stop on Nov. 24, 1946.
Caption (German) Er war bei der Swissair-Gründung 1931 der jüngste Flugkapitän. 1928-1930 war er als Verkehrspilot in den USA tätig gewesen und darum als einer der wenigen der englischen Sprache mächtig. Aus diesem Grund durfte er am 24. Nov. 1946 das erste Swissair-Langstreckenflugzeug DC-4, HB-ILA von New York nonstop nach Genf fliegen
