Caption | Built in 1922/23 by the Arsenal de Brest (naval shipyard) for the French state and entrusted to the CGT (Compagnie Générale Transatlantique) for management. Used on the routes between Marseille and North Africa. From 1941, the "Gouverneur-Général Jonnart" was used as a hotel ship in Marseille. In February 1944, the German occupation forces began to convert the steamer into a hospital ship, it was given the name "Greifswald". Already in November of the same year, in view of the course of the war, the ship was intentionally flooded. In 1945 the steamer was raised and used as barracks for Italian prisoners of war. Because the ship was very battered and no longer roadworthy, it was scrapped in Savona in 1948. Postmark 6.4.1926 |
Poststempel 6.4.1926 |
