Caption | The upper part of the bedload deposit area of the Durnagel, the lower, non-visible part, is half as large again: a total of 500,000 m2. The jagged side dams bordered by trees are striking. The Durnagel (torrent of the Durnachtal) regularly washes large amounts of debris into the valley after storms. After the devastating storm of August 24/25, 1944, this huge debris collector was built. From 1947 to 1972, 60 stream dams were built in the Durnachtobel; after that, another 21 were built until 1992. Since then, regular maintenance and renovation work has been necessary. |
