Caption | Years of construction: 1846-1854, in historicizing mixed style (Tudor Gothic and Loire castle-inspired) for the Bernese Banquier de Rougemont, in 1925 the castle and the extensive park became the property of the city of Thun. Soon a restaurant was set up on the lakeside terrace - and for many years it was served alcohol-free by the Women's Association of Thun - a nuisance for the gentlemen who had to do without beer and wine on their Sunday outings. In the upper rooms, an army museum eked out a somewhat dusty existence. Today, the Schadau is a restaurant for higher gastronomic needs and there is a gastronomy museum upstairs. |
