Caption | Robust twin locomotive, primarily designed for military and freight traffic, cannot deny its American origin even without an address: the Baldwin Locomotive Works delivered a full 410 units to the ETAT in the years 1917-1919. (In addition, almost as many were delivered to other French and occasionally Italian railroads). The indestructible locomotives were nicknamed (throughout Europe) "General Pershing". 36 of these locomotives were transferred to Algeria, 40 were lost in the Second World War. After the mass delivery of modern American and Canadian locomotives after World War II (class 141 R), the now somewhat worn-out "General Pershings" were quickly taken out of service, and in 1953 the last of them disappeared. |
