Caption | Built 1899-1910, designed by William Dean and further developed by G.J. Churchward, exceptionally fast locomotives, one of these locomotives was the first steam locomotive in the world to reach a speed of over 100 miles (160 km/h) in 1904. Retirements began in the late 1930s, with the exception of the City of Truro, which survives as a historic locomotive (this is the record-breaking 1904 locomotive), the series was off the rails by 1951. |
