Caption | Wet steam four-cylinder compound technology, the locomotives bore the serial numbers 4500 ff for the experimental machines, then 3500 for the already improved series, for the most part already equipped for hot steam operation. In 1932-34, chief engineer André Chapelon, one of the most eminent figures in steam locomotive construction, fundamentally rebuilt the former 3500 series according to his principles, resulting in an extremely powerful, fast and at the same time quite economical machine. |
