Caption Four-cylinder compound express locomotive. Political background: because Alsace-Lorraine was German until World War I, the French Ostbahn, also had to consider German suppliers. In return, Maffei in Munich adopted the French preference for four-cylinder compound units and also used them successfully for German locomotives, but then mostly according to the Borries system, the highlight being the class 18 of the later Reichsbahn
Caption (German) Vierzylinder-Verbund-Schnellzuglokomotive. Politischer Hintergrund: weil Elsass-Lothringen bis zum 1. Weltkrieg deutsch war, musste die französische Ostbahn, auch deutsche Lieferanten berücksichtigen. Im Gegenzug hat Maffei in München die französische Vorliebe für Vierzylinder-Verbundanlagen übernommen und auch für deutsche Loks erfolgreich verwendet, dann aber meist nach dem System von Borries, Glanzstück war die Baureihe 18 der nachmaligen Reichsbahn
